Book Recommendation ~ Digitalis by Ronie Kendig

Book Description:

Step into the boots of a former Marine in this heart-pounding adventure in life and love. Colton “Cowboy” Neeley is a Marine trying to find his footing as he battles flashbacks now that he’s back home. Piper Blum is a woman in hiding—from life and the assassins bent on destroying her family. When their hearts collide, more than their lives are at stake. Will Colton find a way to forgive Piper’s lies? Can Piper find a way to rescue her father, trapped in Israel? Is there any way their love, founded on her lies, can survive?

Narelle’s Thoughts:

Digitalis is Book 2 in Ronie Kendig’s Discarded Heroes series. A fast paced romantic thriller set in the US and Israel that will keep you turning the page until the very end.

Colton “Cowboy” Neely is a former marine who joins the elite black ops Nightshade team. He is tormented by horrific flashbacks that have put loved ones in danger, and his parents look after his young daughter when he’s away on overseas missions.

Piper Blum is hiding out in the US, and living in fear that the assassins searching for her father will find her. She meets Colton whilst working as a sales assistant.

Colton is drawn to Piper, and for eight months he regularly purchases towels at Piper’s counter. When Piper finds his lost daughter in the store, he finally has an opportunity to get to know her better.

Both Piper and Colton have secrets they can’t risk exposing to each other. The stakes are raised when the men looking for Piper’s father close in on her and Colton’s team are called in to protect Piper.

There is strong emotional conflict in the story, and the secrets between Colton and Piper cause massive complications in their romantic relationship. The characters are engaging and the faith element is intrinsic to the plot as the characters struggle to trust God in a world where bad things keep happening and they don’t know who they can trust. I recommend Digitalis to those looking for an action packed and compelling romantic thriller.

Book Recommendation ~ Blood Ransom by Lisa Harris

Book Description:

Natalie Sinclair is working to eradicate the diseases decimating whole villages in the Republic of Dhambizao when she meets Dr. Chad Talcott, a surgeon on sabbatical from a lucrative medical practice now volunteering at a small clinic. Meanwhile, things are unraveling in Dhambizao. Joseph Komboli returns to his village to discover rebel soldiers abducting his family and friends. Those that were too old or weak to work lay motionless in the African soil. When Chad and Natalie decide to help Joseph expose this modern-day slave trade—and a high-ranking political figure involved in it—disaster nips at their heels. Where is God in the chaos? Will Chad, Natalie, and Joseph win their race against time? Romance and adventure drive Blood Ransom, by Lisa Harris, a powerful thriller about the modern-day slave trade and those who dare to challenge it.

Narelle’s Thoughts:

Blood Ransom was a 2011 Christy Award nominee in the contemporary romance category and I totally understand why. I read this book within two days and I was immediately drawn into Natalie and Chad’s story.

Natalie and Chad were two ordinary Americans who had a heart to help Africans born into poverty and difficult circumstances. They could have ignored the evidence of slavery but instead put their lives in danger as they struggled to save  Joseph’s family and the other innocent victims from remotes villages. A powerful story of hope in a world full of greed and political corruption. I highly recommend this book to those looking for a fast paced romantic thriller that addresses the issue of modern-day slavery.

Book Recommendation: Taken by Lisa Harris

Taken

Book Description:

MISSING CHILD

Kate Elliot’s suburban life turns upside down when her sister is shot and her niece kidnapped. Unsure of whom to trust, she turns to FBI agent Marcus O’Brian. But Kate doesn’t want to leave the case to the authorities. Against the handsome agent’s orders, she tracks her niece to Paris, and the City of Light quickly becomes a city of danger. Marcus can’t explain why he feels such a strong connection with the headstrong woman, but soon he’s taking on the role of Kate’s protector. Yet when the kidnappers demand a ransom Kate can’t deliver, he’s not sure how much longer he can keep her alive. Now Marcus has the next twenty-four hours to save a stolen child and the woman he’s grown to love.

Narelle: I’m a fan of Lisa’s books and I loved reading Taken. I read it quickly, within twenty four hours, because I couldn’t put it down. The story starts in the middle of the action, when Kate’s niece is kidnapped from her mother’s home. Distraught and desperate to rescue her niece, Kate travels from Texas to Paris and soon realizes her own life is at stake. Forced to rely on Marcus, she sees a different side of the handsome FBI agent who is protecting her.

I really enjoyed the French story setting in Paris and the inclusion of many historic and famous landmarks. The characterisation was excellent and I loved the way the romance developed between Marcus and Kate. I wanted to see Marcus and Kate stay alive to achieve their own happily-ever-after ending. The suspense plot kept me guessing until the end, with exciting twists and turns along the way.

I highly recommend Taken to readers who are looking for a high octane and fast paced romantic suspense story set in beautiful Paris.

Book Recommendation: Identity Withheld by Sandra Orchard

Identity Withheld

Book Description:

WITNESS IN HIDING

After exposing an illegal adoption ring, newly named “Kara Grant” is promised safety in Witness Protection. But someone has found her—and wants her dead. If only she could trust the handsome firefighter who catches her fleeing from a suspicious fire. Jake Steele seems to think she’s guilty of burning her own home. But how can she tell him who she really is and what she’s been through without bringing danger to the widowed single father’s door? Yet with the criminals quickly closing in, taking such a risk might be her only chance at survival. Because the price she’ll pay for her silence could be her life.

Narelle: I really enjoyed reading Identity Withheld. Kara is a strong and fascinating character. She’s in Witness Protection because she has integrity and stood up for what was right. Kara is displaced from her family and can’t afford to trust anyone with her secret. Jake is intrigued by Kara and she draws out his protective instincts. Their lives become entangled as the story unfolds and Kara is worried her presence in Jake’s life is putting his family and adorable young son in danger.

The story is fast moving and the romance between Kara and Jake develops as the danger to her life escalates. I recommend Identity Withheld to those who enjoy high octane romantic suspense stories.

Romantic suspense fans will be hooked from the start by Lisa Harris’s first installment of the new Southern Crimes series.

Narelle: I really enjoyed reading Dangerous Passage and I was drawn into the story from the opening chapter. Avery is tryng to relax by having a pedicure, and you just know something big is about to go wrong to disrupt her idyllic day off.  Avery is a fascinating and multi-dimensional character who has survived a lot of hardship and loss. She is a devoted single mother to her young daughter, Tess, and she juggles the responsibilities of motherhood, extended family dramas and a demanding job.

Avery and Jackson have started dating at the beginning of the book. A realistic and tender romance develops between Avery and Jackson, who each have their own issues and fears to face in the story. I liked how we see Jackson’s caring and protective side emerge as Avery encounters dangerous situations.

The suspense plot is exciting and gritty, with lots of twists and turns that kept me guessing until the end. The book doesn’t shy away from dealing with the unspeakable horrors associated with human trafficking. There is also an intruiguing series mystery element in the story that carries over into the next book. I highly recommend Dangerous Passage to those looking for an exciting and fast paced romantic suspense story.
